Thistle Divers turned 50 this year. The club was formed way back in 1972 when scuba diving as a sport was still developing.
To celebrate the club held a 50th Anniversary dinner at The Coachman Inn, Kilsyth in Friday 28th October 2022.
We enjoyed a great evening with some talks followed by dinner and a disco. A raffle was held and was very generously supported.
It was great to see old friends and former members catching up, reminiscing and enjoying the evening. Lots of great chat, laughs and dancing too!
We would like to thank everyone who made the night a celebration of 50 years as a dive club.
Gordon Fyfe and Rob Sewell gave us a few laughs during their very enjoyable talks on the history of Thistle divers over the years, talking about the incidents, characters and events that make and shape the club.
We also especially want to express our thanks and appreciation to Dr Texa Sim together with Fee Zanke both representing Caolas (Community Association of Lochs and Sounds) a Marine Conservation group based at Lochaline, who travelled down to present on the Native Oyster project to Thistle and our guests. In 2023 Thistle Divers plan to assist the project by mapping and photographing the reefs where Serpulid Worm aggregations have been found and taking native oysters into deeper areas of Lochaline.
We also want to say a very huge thanks to Aquatron, Patersons Air Systems, Splashsports, K-Dive, The Coachman Hotel, J. Grozier and A.Thomson for their generous sponsorship for our raffle prizes and to all members and former members for their brilliant donations.
Thank you also to the staff at The Coachman for the lovely food and making sure everyone was looked after so well and to Kenny Taylor for providing us with great music over the evening.
The club organising committee of Anne, George, Stephen and Donald also deserve a very special mention for all their fantastic organisation.
Here’s to another 50 years.
