SeaSearch Course

What a busy exciting weekend…… Paul, Rob, Anne, Donald and myself, Mary, joined 6 members of Clyde Scottish SAC in classroom on Saturday with Owen Paisley, from Sea Search. We were invited to Greenock Fire Station where Owen delivered an informative course to us.

SeaSearch Team

Heads bursting with knowledge, Paul Rob and I were set to dive Sunday and put into action what we had learned and actually survey a site.
The Clyde was the obvious choice, next to Clyde SSAC’s Club house in Gourock, Inverclyde. 2 fantastic dives we had, noticing life we had never before and successfully completing survey forms to be analysed by Sea Search
Lesser spotted Cat sharks, Gobies, spider crab, common crab, edible crab, hermit crab, scorpion fish, barrel jellyfish, lion’s mane, sea urchins, black brittle star, common starfish, horse mussels, burrowing anemones, kelp forests, various seaweeds, King and Queenie scallops, razor clam, keel worms, and large sea snails or buckies, as they are better known apparently, were some of the animal and plant life we listed. We also listed some man made objects:- a wreck, well small boat really, a platform of sorts and crail pot with other life in them no crail! long ropes and chains and several pieces of litter. I removed an orange golf ball.
5 Clyde members also did dives expressing the same enthusiasm we did at the end of their dives .
We were all well catered for by their fantastic Christina Rodriguez. thank you for your homemade soup, sandwiches, tea and coffee.
Think everyone enjoyed the weekend and extend big thanks to Owen.
