Another weekend, another great day on the water for Thistle Divers!
With a mix of newly qualified divers and experienced members on board, the day was a fantastic reminder of what makes club diving so enjoyable—sharing experiences, learning from one another and exploring some of Scotland’s incredible underwater sites together.
Our first dive of the day took us to the wreck of the Avrella in Loch Goil.
The dive was particularly memorable for Ally, who completed both his first RHIB dive and his first wreck dive. Congratulations on reaching two fantastic milestones in a single day!
Conditions below the surface were rewarding, with the visibility opening up below around 10 metres to reveal the wreck in all its glory. Whether it was a first visit or a return to an old favourite, everyone came back on board with smiles and stories to share.
With the boat shed already full and the rain making an appearance, our planned lunch stop wasn’t quite to plan. Instead, we made the most of the day by heading straight to our second dive site.
Fortunately, the Scottish weather soon reminded us how quickly it can change—the clouds cleared and the sun appeared just as we arrived.
Our second dive took us to the spectacular wall at Rubha na Beith.
The site offered dramatic overhangs, fascinating nooks and crannies to explore, and even the impressive sight of a large tree resting along the seabed. Divers were rewarded with sightings of ling, conger eels and plenty of other marine life, making it a fitting end to a fantastic day’s diving.
One of the highlights of the day wasn’t just what we saw underwater—it was the people on board.
Having newly qualified divers sharing the boat with experienced members is something we’re proud of. Everyone supports each other, shares knowledge and enjoys the day together, creating a welcoming environment where divers can build confidence while continuing to develop their skills.
